Business Ethics Charter

byLegit exists for one simple reason: trust doesn't need a pilot, it needs proof. For that proof to stay credible, businesses using our tools — in particular our customer verification API — agree to follow the principles below.

By claiming a profile or using an API key, you accept this charter. It forms an integral part of our terms of use.

A claimed business undertakes to:

• never request the removal of a genuine review, even an unfavourable one;
• never write, buy or commission fake reviews, nor solicit reviews in exchange for a hidden incentive;
• never pressure or threaten a reviewer into editing or deleting their review;
• reply to reviews factually, courteously and without discrimination;
• not use a reviewer's public information to contact them outside the platform without their consent.

The customer verification API has a single purpose: confirming that a review is based on a genuine experience. Each API key belongs to one business and one domain. You undertake to:

• only send byLegit email addresses of people who genuinely are your customers or registered users;
• never submit addresses collected without a legal basis (purchased lists, scraping, third-party databases);
• not use the API to probe whether someone holds a byLegit account, enrich a contact file, or infer any information about a person;
• not attempt to bypass rate limits, nor reuse or share your key with any third party;
• immediately report any leak or suspected compromise of your key to hello@bylegit.com.

byLegit never returns personal data to you: our replies merely confirm that your request was received. Any attempt to extract more is considered abuse.

You share with byLegit only what is strictly necessary: an email address, nothing else. No sensitive data (health, opinions, banking data…) may transit through our tools.

You process the submitted addresses in accordance with the GDPR and your own privacy policy, and you inform your customers and users of this verification processing.

Your profile information (name, description, logo) must be accurate and up to date. Any reply published on behalf of the business must come from a duly authorised person.

If you have a connection with a reviewer (employee, contractor, relative), you must not try to influence their rating or content.

If this charter is breached, byLegit may, depending on severity:

• issue a warning and ask you to remedy the situation;
• suspend or revoke your API keys;
• remove the "verified" badge from the reviews concerned;
• suspend access to the business area, or even delete the profile claim;
• take appropriate legal action where users' rights have been infringed or fraud committed.

Abusive behaviour can be reported to hello@bylegit.com. Every report is reviewed before any decision is taken.

This charter may be updated as the platform and regulations evolve. The version published on this page, together with its update date, is the one in force.
